A new update (after almost 3 years of nothing)

June 2, 2015

I can’t believe that it’s been so long that I’ve done nothing with this blog. Truth be told, I’ve been busy with life, raising an autistic son and working long hours with the USPS, among other things. The reason why I came back is because I’m learning web development online through TeamTreehouse.com in order to have an easier job and make more money. A point they keep banging home is to start a blog reiterating what I learned as practice.

It makes sense to me. The way I would retain anything from college is writing papers on a subject. As painful as it was, it worked. Anything else I needed to know for things like quizzes has flown the coop long long ago. How am I supposed to remember the intricacies of Kantian Ethics or Utilitarianism when my life is so busy, especially when my wife is always blasting Big Freeda and Nicki Minaj on the stereo?

Also, it’s not as if I haven’t thought about coming back to my blog sooner. I have a moleskin book full of ideas that I never acted upon, including articles for Feastmas. I wanted to come back but then I had another dilemma. Am I so important that the world wide web would be incomplete without my blog posts? Who am I that I have to talk about my life online? Am I part of the celebrity-crazed public that I have to put myself out there in order to be internet famous? I’m conflicted about that because on one hand, unlike Ron Burgandy, I’m not a big deal. I’m part of the all-singing all-dancing crap of the world. On the other hand, that seems rather judgmental to others who have an internet presence.

Lately, I’ve been remembering why I started a blog in the first place: to talk about things that I like and to keep my writing skills up to par. When I started, I didn’t care if anyone read this. My writing was to help me get better at writing and to keep memories of my past fresh. You know what? I had fun remembering things of my childhood, and my college papers would’ve suffered if I didn’t start the blog. My writing was terrible when I started blogging and it has improved tenfold. I have been out of school for about three years and I’m afraid that my mind might start slipping.

I do have more free time considering that I’m still healing from a broken ankle and I’m about to quit my job in order to help my wife ghostwriting articles for the web. I’m not sure what my subjects will be since I’m not sure what to write about from my past. I think I will just wing it and write when I’m inspired. I need more practice writing to help my wife with her job. I’d rather do that than slaving delivering mail.

Better than getting chased by dogs.

Another strange thing I noticed when I logged on to WordPress is that I regularly get views daily. Kinda strange considering it’s been forever since I wrote anything. It makes me think of cool blogs that I stumbled upon that ended abruptly and wished the bloggers still wrote for them. Did that ever happened to anyone who read my blog? I’ll probably never know but it does kinda motivate me to write.

Finally, there are things coming around that I might want to write about, including a possible relocation south of New York and a Disney trip that may actually happen. I’m excited about this and may want to keep an online journal.  I don’t know how often I’ll post, but who cares. Nobody reads this anyway. I’m writing for me.

P.S. When the hell did WordPress change it’s format? I have to learn everything again.

Six Flags Great Adventure Safari Update.

August 31, 2012

Earlier this week I mentioned the change to the safari where visitors will not be able to drive their cars inside the animal habitat anymore. While that is a bummer and will end at the end of September, the Six Flags brass has come out with a new press release on the new park features for the 2013 season.

As I mentioned as a possible…uh, possibility, the safari park will have their own vehicles that will take groups closer to the animals than before. According to NBC news, “Guests will follow the escapades of the fictional Wilds family that stays at Camp Aventura, the main stop in the off-road excursion.” (MSN.com) I like this idea because it takes a storytelling page from the Disney imagineers playbook.

WTF! Their photo, not mine.

A strange fact is that the entrance to this new attraction is in the Frontier Adventures section of the park, themed with a western motif. I find this strange because there is another section of the park called The Golden Kingdom where it is themed after the jungle and has bamboo plants, had the white tiger show, and is home to the rollercoaster Kingda Ka, which is also themed after the jungle. If they plan on keeping any sense with their themed sections , they may get rid of The Golden Kingdom, which would be a shame because it is done nicely.

I hope for no change.

They also will have a zipline that would go over the safari, but I would imagine the lines being too crazy to wait for and I don’t want to risk getting a flesh-eating bacteria.

Remember, the drive-through ends this September 30th. Last chance to experience it before this driving option closes forever.

#@$%!!!!!

December 22, 2011

What the hell? Twenty-four straight days of posting (mostly) and then I miss most of December? Well, there’s two reasons why I’ve been silent on WordPress and I think they’re pretty much legit.

1)   Needed a break from the daily posts.

I never did a Thanksgiving countdown before and I wanted to give it some justice. I could have easily posted a picture with a comment on most days, and I have seen other blogs do things like that. I don’t knock those blogs at all, but I wanted to do a little bit more. I wanted to post something that web surfers would actually want to read. I figured that a post around 500 words would be best for well-rounded articles. Sometimes I had to write and post them in one sitting, which include the time sucking tasks of searching and editing of pictures. Don’t get me wrong though because I’m certainly not complaining or whining about the task. I actually had fun with the posts but they can be draining. After my last post, I was a little bit sad that it was over, yet I was mentally exhausted. My word count for the month was at least over 10,000. I’m not used to writing so much.

2)   Hell bound Semester.

I just finished the first semester of my senior year in college and while the Major classes are usually winding down at that time, I took a senior seminar class in Philosophy. I had a full schedule which included another Philosophy class, the second Spanish course, and Piano I. I still don’t know what the hell I was thinking when I made the class schedule. Hell, I am not graduating with honors, so the senior seminar wasn’t even necessary.

Yes, there were many So-Crates jokes.

In addition, I suck at Spanish. I took the first class my freshman year and then waited until my senior year to take the second. Yeah, I know, stupid me. And as an elective, I took Piano I since I have a keyboard that is collecting dust. That was pretty fun since I did not know much of anything with pianos and now I can play and read several songs. As fun as learning piano is, it definitely takes discipline. I had to make sure I practiced at least an hour every day or else it would show that I slacked off when I played the exercise in front of the class every week. Pressure!

Yanni

I’m coming for you, Yanni! Betta watch yo back!

This coming semester should be a piece of cake since I finished my Majors and now have to take BullShizzle classes. Still, with all the bad choices I made for myself when it comes to college workload, I’m surprised I don’t have a drug or alcohol problem. I’ll have a beer once in a while to take off the edge but it’s obvious I don’t think ahead when making choices. I mean, I did decide to do a Thanksgiving countdown with an insane amount of course work due.

Finally, I’ve been following other blogs that have Christmas themed posts, messing with my new Nintendo 3DS, and reading books. I slowed down drastically with Television because of my school business and have to catch up on Christmas classics. Talk to you later.
