What a surprise it is for me to surf the web and find out that a sequel for Beetlejuice is planned. I was a little concerned about this plan at first but Tim Burton will have a connection to this movie. Also, screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith will also play a part in the making. He worked with Burton on Dark Shadows, a movie I have not seen, but it is promising to hear that Seth and Burton worked on other projects and they will probably mesh well with this movie.
So far, there is no news out there on who will star in the movie but it’s more than likely that Glenn Shadix and Jeffrey Jones won’t be in it. Shadix (Otho) passed away and Jones (Charles) registered as a sex offender for shenanigans with a 14-year-old boy. I think Michael Keaton would be the best choice for the star, but I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary. I once went to Universal Studios Florida in the early 90’s and met Beetlejuice. It was a park entertainer, but I swear that he can fool anyone. The guy had the role down packed and actually looked just like the movie version. Michael Keaton probably added in his own jokes in the movie and I think that made the movie so much funnier than what the script probably had, so the movie would suffer in his absence, but it wouldn’t be a total loss.
And really, this news is so much better than hearing about a reboot without input from Burton. I think 80’s movies have been butchered way too much lately I doubt I will see any more reboots from that decade. I don’t need to have a bad taste in my mouth from these a-hole Hollywood types, messing with my childhood memories and the like. They can kiss both cheeks.
